Just as you find in London and Berlin, it’s the east of the city that’s home to Amsterdam’s best bars, clubs and nights. Though east Amsterdam’s renaissance is a few years behind its European neighbours, places have been opening up left, right and centre here.
Generator Amsterdam, set in the former health sciences and zoological university in Oosterpark, is one of a number of venues that’s bringing a new wave of music, art and cultural offerings to the east part of the city.
Since its opening last March, Generator has been packed out. Set in the high-ceilinged building from 1917, it’s an ideal mix of old Dutch style and modern architecture and it also doubles up as a luxury hostel with great restaurant and bar.
Oosterbar has a pretty unique location, overlooking the park in the basement of Generator, and hosts live sets, poetry, comedy and world music nights. Bringing in local as well as international talent, this new east-Dam joint joins the likes of Bar Bukowski, AIR and Canvas, which are all nearby.
If you’re headed to the city for a 48 hour getaway (aka some 420 and partying), then check Oosterbar’s Facebook page for its latest events, exhibitions and nights and check its rates for some of the cheapest luxury in town.
