Get Lost in LOEWE’s Sun-Soaked Balearic Soundtrack

Made in collaboration with Michel Gaubert, Soulwax and Ill-studio

To celebrate LOEWE’s revival collection with Paula’s Ibiza Boutique and the third edition of its annual summer shop in the island’s Museu d’Art Contemporani, LOEWE have released Close to Paradise, a one-off track to transport listeners back to the sun-soaked, wild nights of Ibiza’s heyday.

Written and produced by Soulwax and curated by sound director Michel Gaubert (long-term Karl Lagerfeld collaborator who has worked with everyone including Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten and Jil Sander) the escalating tempo is narrated by four local characters, providing unique perspectives on the island’s esoteric allure.

“David and Stephen Dewaele are two culture vultures and they have an amazing knowledge of Ibiza, its people and its place in the music world, it seemed logical to ask them to collaborate on this project,” says Michel Gaubert.

The graphic album artwork was created by Ill-Studio and the limited edition record will be released in joint collaboration with The Vinyl Factory and DEEWEE (Soulwax’s label). Close to Paradise is also a 12-chapter digital publication featuring 12 iconic places and 16 prominent personalities that have each left an indelible mark on the island. It’s been illustrated with specially sourced vintage photography from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and features embedded audio interviews with everyone from Italian go-go dancer Anna Maria to Pacha founder Ricardo Urgell, and from legendary hotelier Tony Pike to a colourful cast of hippies, heavyweights and hospitable Ibicencos.
