Why Skepta Travels

Finding like-mindedness in New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Toronto

“I travelled the world to find like-minded people. I was on a mission, worldwide,” says Skepta in a new clip from his upcoming documentary, Skepta: Greatness Only. His links to the likes of Drake, A$AP Nast and the Know Wave crew are proof that journeying and keeping an open mind can lead to the formation of an enlightening global crew.

Released on Apple Music on Monday, the film sees the UK rapper talk to his sister Julie Adenuga about mad world trips: “I gave it everything. I was going countries with no bank cards…even tours that I’ve been on I’ve had to sleep in crazy places.”

Skeppy’s Manager, Grace LaDoja, was the one who encouraged him to fly around the world to find similar spirits. “When I first met him, I said, ‘Go around the world like a skater, meet people like yourself, hang out with them, build a family, build a base, build a foundation of people that you like and you’re good. No one else needs to like you. It’s just about like-mindedness.’ It happened there, in New York, in Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Toronto. All across the world he’s got a family of people that are like him.”

You heard it from Skepta: go travel the world (bank card optional).
